Schedule an appointment with the local DNA Lab

Based on your availability, we schedule a time for your DNA test. Depending on your location and preference, we will either send you to a nearby clinic or send a mobile collector to visit you. We will work with you to find the solution that best fits your needs.

The DNA Testing Appointment Itself

In most cases, every individual being tested will attend the same appointment. However we are flexible for your needs. Whether collected together or separately, the specimans must be collected from everyone involved in the DNA test and the lab must receive the specimans in a timely manner. You should bring a government issued photo ID for each tested adult, as well as identification paperwork for tested children. We ask that you also have one copy made of each identification document for the collector to send with the samples. After a few minutes of paperwork the collector will swab the inside of your cheek for a brief moment, and then package it all up for the lab. The entire appointment should only last about 10-15 minutes per person.

DNA Laboratory Processing

Samples are shipped to the laboratory via overnight shipping within 24 hours of collection. Once the lab receives the samples, they begin isolating the DNA particles from each person to generate a “DNA Profile.” Since the Mother and Father each contribute half of the child’s DNA, the profiles are compared to see whether a DNA match exists on either side. The lab usually completes this step within 3 business days from receiving the samples. If there are abnormalities, further testing is necessary. However, this is uncommon.

Delivering DNA Results

As soon as the results are ready, we’ll send you via email a lab certified PDF copy of the results. If an attorney or other third-party needs access to the results, we can email them a copy as well. Many courts will accept emailed version if they come directly from the lab, however, hard copies are also available upon request.
